Kotoko-Ashgold draw: Duncan OK

The head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has said he is pleased with the performance of his lads in Wednesday’s (March 9) Ghana Premier League game against Ashgold despite drawing blank against the miners at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors have garnered two points from a possible nine, so far in the season.

Speaking to Class Sports, Mr Duncan urged his team to remain consistent with their performance.

“I think the boys raised their game as against the one we played against Medeama. I am just hoping that this won’t be a flash in the pan, otherwise we could be described as an inconsistent team because we cannot play like this and then another game not raise the bar. I think we should pick it up from where we left off today and see whether we can get the results in subsequent games,” noted Mr Duncan

“I think that it is justified that should we get the full complement of the defensive layer, we could prevent goals.”

For Ashgold’s coach Bashir Hayford, the game with Kotoko was difficult.

He observed: “It has not been an easy game. If you have played two games and you have only one point and you are playing the third outstanding match, I think obviously the fighting spirit will be very high. And then we also coming away meant that it was not going to be easy and we knew that the fighting spirit will be very difficult for us.”

Mr Hayford believed his boys had done enough to grab all three points.

“We came with the mission to collect the three points, but man proposes and God disposes. God has given us one point and we thank God for that. I think both sides played very well, only that we were slightly ahead of them. We created a number of chances that we could have buried to carry the day. I will emphatically say my strikers failed me.

Ashgold midfielder Nuhu Fuseini rued the opportunity to emerge winners on the day and apologised for missing a goal-scoring opportunity.

“I take this opportunity to apologise to my coach because I squandered a chance, which I think I should have buried,” the striker pleaded.

Kotoko have two points out of a possible nine points in three games while Ashgold have five points after three matches.
