Cocoa farmers at Twifo Baakonnidi in the Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region are appealing for support to combat fires that are ravaging their fields.
A farmer in the area, Kalsum Dauda, told Accra News Saturday January 9 that about 20 acres of farmland, mainly cocoa, have been lost to fires within a week because of the severe Harmattan.
He said fires swept through many fields across the community but little could be done by those nearby to extinguish the flames, as all water bodies around the farms had dried up.
Mr Dauda, thus, appealed to the government, the Ghana National Fire Service, and other responsible bodies to come to the aid of farmers in the community and quench the raging fires in order to save livelihoods.
