Former President John Dramani Mahama has begun a road safety campaign prior to the Easter festivities to emphasise the need to curb road carnage.
Mr Mahama, who toured various lorry terminals in Accra on Thursday, 18 April 2019, took the opportunity to appeal to the drivers and terminal operators to team up with the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) to reduce road accidents.
Mr Mahama also admonished passengers to prompt drivers when they overspeed.
“We all have to help the Commission to reduce the accidents that occur on our roads,” he stated.
He continued: “We are pleading with drivers to make every effort to exercise restraint in speeding in order to decrease road crashes”.
On his part, the Welfare Chairman of the Tudu branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Olympio Peku, welcomed the former President's advice amidst calls on him to support them with the construction of a modern terminal.
Mr Mahama also visited the Kaneshie and Circle lorry stations in the capital.
