The Accra High Court has admitted Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the party’s Deputy Communication officer, Mr Anthony Kwaku Boahen, to a bail bond of GHS100,000 each in the ongoing case concerning a leaked tape which allegedly captured Mr Ofosu-Ampofo giving his blessings to party communicators to attack the Electoral Commission Chairperson and the Chairman of the National Peace Council.
They are to provide a surety each. Both of them pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy on Tuesday, 16 April 2019. The case has been adjourned to 6 May 2019.
A leaked tape that surfaced a few months ago contained a voice which the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has identified as that of Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, inciting NDC communicators to go after the two personalities with insults.
In court to solidarise with the accused persons were former President John Mahama, General Secretary of the party, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Mr Mahama’s spokesperson Joyce Bawah Mogtari and a former Chief of Staff Nana Ato Dadzie.
