The Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry, which investigated the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence, on Thursday, 14 March 2019 presented its report to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.
The Commission wrapped up its work last week, which involved hearing from witnesses including the police, ministers of state, politicians, journalists, security experts, among others.
The Commission was tasked by the president to investigate the violence and submit its report within one month.
The violence saw several people suffer various degrees of injury with others hospitalised after masked national security operatives fired into a crowd of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters near the residence of the party’s parliamentary candidate Kwesi Delali Brempong at La-Bawaleshie, Accra.
The Commission was chaired by a former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Justice Emile Short, with legal expert Prof Henrietta Mensah Bonsu and Mr Patrick K. Acheampong, a former Inspector General of Police (IGP), as members.
