Tuesday night’s blackout in most parts of the capital, Accra, was “due to technical challenges”, Power Distribution Services Ghana (PDS), the new company that has taken over power distribution from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has said.
Areas such as Odorkor, Darkuman, Lapaz, Anyaa, Abeka, Sowutuom, Kasoa, Tema, Kwashieman, Awoshie, Kaneshie, parts of new Achimota and parts of northern Ghana were without power throughout the night.
PDS, in a statement, said power supply from the Mallam Bulk Supply Point and the Graphic Road was “curtailed” resulting in the total blackout in those parts of the capital and in northern Ghana.
“This has caused power outage within the western and the central parts of Accra. Immediately the situation is rectified, power supply will be restored to affected customers. The inconvenience is very much regretted,” PDS’ statement added.
Power has, however, been restored to most of the affected areas but others are yet to have any power.
PDS took over from ECG in February 2019 and is expected to turnaround the operations of ECG to make it profitable.
