Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford, has decried the high cases of divorce in the constituency due to married men suffering from hernia.
He observed that most of the marriages which were not functional was due to untreated hernia infections as a result of the high cost in managing the condition.
Addressing constituents, the MP said: “Hernia is causing a lot of divorce cases in Mfantseman”.
He disclosed that it costs about GHS1000 to treat the condition however, most people are not able to seek medical attention because of their inability to afford it.
According to him, with the help of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, 62 persons who were suffering from the condition have had their bills paid. He further entreated the constituents to direct anyone with the condition to him in order to have the persons treated.
The MP, who underscored the importance of health, disclosed that Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds have been built in the constituency at Akyemfo, Abeadze Dominase, Kyeakor and Taabosom among others, and 10,000 people have been registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
