President Akufo Addo has announced a compensation package totalling GHS1,750,000 to be shared to the families of the seven persons who were shot dead by some police personnel at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region.
He said each of the seven families will receive GHS250,000.
The president made the announcement at the 2019 maiden conference of the Zongo for Peace and Development held in Kumasi at the Georgia hotel.
The conference was under the theme: "Developing our zongo communities through tolerance and peace".
He said even though money cannot replace the life of a human being but it's the responsibility of government to ensure that people left behind by the deceased are being taken care of.
He also indicated that processes have been initiated to ensure that police personnel who were involved in the killing of the seven persons are prosecuted.
He appealed to the families of the deceased to exercise restraint.
He also entreated the youth of Asawase not to allow some people to instigate them to resort to violence but to uphold peace like they have always done.
He assured them that justice will be served to get the perpetrators punished.
