Taxes overburdening Ghanaians – Apostle Nkum

General Overseer of the Radiant Place Church, Apostle Emmanuel Nkum, has said Ghanaians are being overburdened with too many taxes.

According to him, the taxes are further impoverishing the ordinary Ghanaian whereas, the leaders who are put into offices to serve are enriching themselves.

Speaking in an interview with Accra News' Katakyie Obeng Mensah as part of the one-year anniversary of the church, Apostle Nkoom said: “I don’t think taxes are bad because we need them to develop the nation, however, I disagree with the development where the government is overburdening the people with too many taxes.

“We have natural resources but we go to the IMF and other bodies for loans and grants and, so, why do we overburden Ghanaians again with taxes?

“As I speak to you, very soon all the telecommunication companies including MTN, AirtelTigo and Vodafone are about to increase their tariffs on 1 November because of a tax that was introduced by the government. So now, we are going to pay huge amount of money for communicating among ourselves. Ghana is sick and the ordinary people who are suffering will still pay.”

“Our leaders must know that it is a privilege given to them by God to rule over us and serve us, it is not their birth right and, so, they must rule with honesty, and sincerity."
