We’re committed to Affirmative Action Bill

headlines 0 0

Gender Minister, Mrs Otiko Afisa Djaba, has said government is committed to passing the Affirmative Action Bill this year.

The bill if passed will make sure women are represented heavily in all activities.

The bill will give women 30 percent participation and representation in governance.

Ms Djaba said: “We have done the consultations, and we have been able to send it to cabinet, they’ll deliberate on it. After approval, we’ll send to parliament for them to ensure that the bill is passed.”

“We are lobbying them, having talks with them, I believe strongly that by the grace of God this year, we’ll pass the affirmative action bill,” she added.

The stated justification for affirmative action by its proponents is that it helps to compensate for past discrimination, persecution or exploitation by the ruling class of a culture, and to address existing discrimination.
