The Northern Regional Police command has tightened security at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) following an attack on the hospital’s CEO David Akolbila, by a coalition of pro-NPP vigilante groups including Kandahar Boays on Monday, 13 August.
Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Ussif Tanko told Chief Jerry Forson on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, 14 August that: “We stationed officers at the Hospital yesterday and they will continue to protect the hospital. We assure patients and hospital staff that they can continue working safely.”
The youth, who attacked the hospital on Monday, accused the CEO of adopting a habit of issuing threats to staff, engaging in procurement breaches and neglecting the purchase of key hospital consumables such as examination gloves, needles and syringes, among other things.
They also alleged that under Dr Akolbila’s watch, the Tamale Teaching Hospital keeps deteriorating.
But DSP Tanko said the police is on a manhunt for suspects.
“We have received the video footage of the scene and so we are liaising with some people to help identify the persons captured in the tape,” he said.
