KMA finally gets PM

headlines 0 0

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, after six tailed attempts fraught with conflicts, has finally elected a Presiding Member.

Nana Adu Mensah Asare, Amakomhene, got 100 YES votes as against 22 No votes in ballots cast on Thursday, 13 October. He was a compromise candidate.

The Assembly has struggled in electing a PM over the past few months as it has been split, with supporters of previous candidates taking entrenched positions to ensure their preferred candidate got elected.

In the six elections conducted before Thursday’s sitting, none of the candidates garnered the constitutionally mandated two-thirds majority of votes cast.

As a result, Nana Adu Mensah Asare was been nominated by the Kumasi Traditional Council as a compromise candidate for the vacant position after lead contenders in the last election, Abraham Boadi and Michael Adusei, agreed to step aside.

He was sworn into office on the same day.
