The Centre for Constitutional Order (CENCORD), a legal think-tank, has disclosed its readiness to offer free legal assistance to the husband and family of the late 30-year-old pregnant woman who died with her unborn baby at the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi on Wednesday, 4 July 2018, after the health post refused her entry into the labour ward because her husband could not immediately pay a GHS500 'Doctor Motivation Fee'.

Angela Afriyie Agyemang died at the theatre just as her husband had made available the GHS500 fee for which she had been denied medical attention.

Pastor Solomon Lamo Latiff of the House of Faith Ministry in Kumasi, husband to the deceased, disclosed on Tuesday 10 July that he would sue the hospital for medical negligence.

CENCORD after hearing the story have offered to provide free legal assistance to the widower and the family.

Speaking to Moro Awudu on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Wednesday, 11 July 2018, the Executive Director of CENCORD, Solomon Osei-Fosu, said they chose to assist because the records of deaths from medical negligence was soaring in the country and it needs to be curtailed.

He said: “We think as a nation, as a people and as a centre, we need to do something about it because it is becoming too many in this country and you will never know when this can happen to you that is why we said let’s do anything possible to help this man to get justice from what has happened.”

He added that: “We are lawyers so what we can do to help is to offer purely legal advice and when he goes to court, we will assist this man in any way we can for him to get the justice that he wants.”
